Philharmonie Salzburg

General Information

Year of Foundation:  1998

The orchestra, founded by Elisabeth Fuchs, consists of students and graduates of Salzburg’s Mozarteum University. Alongside the classics of the
repertoire, the group also frequently devotes itself to unusual projects. The efforts of this young orchestra and its artistic director have met with widespread success. In 2005, the JPS had its debut at the Salzburg Festival, and 2006 and 2007 saw the young musicians participate in the production of Mozart’s "Bastien & Bastienne" and "Der Schauspieldirektor".

Lineup/Description of Style

All three Stravinsky ballets within a single evening, dancers in the concert hall, opera in a circus tent, the audience singing along to Beethoven’s 9th symphony on a 1,700 meter high mountaintop – the Junge Philharmonie Salzburg (Young Philharmonic of Salzburg) has by now become known for daring to do new things again and again, thus breaking up tried-and-true concert conventions.
