Studies in musicology at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz, course for Computer Music and Electronic Media at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna as well as attendance of courses and seminars in various areas including audio engineering, music therapy, artistic self-management, band training, film music etc.

Being a trained trumpeter, Christian Tschinkel was a junior-member of various brass-ensembles and concert-bands of the local level and also worked as a keyboardist in a hard rock band. For some time he tried his hand as "fusion trumpeter" but in the end turned back to his early experiments with tape recordings. He has always been fascinated by the means of technical sound storage which led to various productions fuelled by the imagination to create original works of music in terms of a "cinema for the ears"; today he isworking on topics like Musique acousmatique and her parallels in popular culture. On this basis, he currently formulates his theory of "Popakusmatik" which deals with the perception of the (daily) speaker's sounds on a psychological and philosophical level and has an important influence on his own popacusmatic work . Both, his thoughts as well as his musical output, he subsumes under the term ACOUSMONUMENTS.

Description of Style

... Electroacoustics ... speaker productions ... Musique acousmatique ... Popacusmatics ... Acusmonautics ...

For me, acousmatic music is the next logical step in the production of piped music. Within this field, a composer might act as an architect and sound sculptor, in order to create  documentary and interpretation of the character of recordings of original music peices. Everything and everyone can be a sonic source material, so acousmatics reflects all-embracing polyphony and processes it in a poetic but also creative manner. For the acousmatic musician the recording studio might become a hyper instrument and the speaker might become a (acousmatic) curtain, behind which the actual production is hidden. Therefore, the event of sound production remains hidden and is in the truest sense of the word "obscene" - which might be interpreted as "off scene". More profund and creative processes (better to think of it as an underlying matrix) remain veiled, while at the speakers' surfaces the more cultivated (and sometimes extremely manipulated) audio signals "materialize" and then develop a virtual stage or scene.
Following a pop-aestethic attitude (high volume, exciter-phenomenons, audio compression, effects for acoustic driving, etc.) I want to extend the influence of acousmatic music in my work to the more physical factor Pop! (being a theoretical conglomerate of affirmation and a counter-attitude). For now, I call the result "Popacusmatics" - even though I already think of term "Acusmonautics".
