Komische Oper Berlin

General Information

Year of Foundation:  1764

The Komische Oper Berlin is the smallest of the three operas in Berlin and together with the Deutschen Oper, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Staatsballett Berlin and the Bühnenservice Berlin a part of the Stiftung Oper in Berlin.

The Komische Oper Berlin represents a contemporary and lively musical theatre, in which music and narrative are mutually dependent. The main focus is the ensemble of singer-actors that presents itself through a broad repertoire ranging from Handel to the 21st century. The genre of comical opera has provided many impulses for the development of musical theatre. The Komische Oper Berlin attempts to show these impulses by performing the entire spectrum of contemporary directorial manuscripts. That is why directors like Calixto Bieito, Peter Konwitschny, Barrie Kosky and Hans Neuenfels entered into long-term cooperations with the opera house.
