Julia Schreitl was born in 1982 and grew up in Martinsdorf, a small village in the north east of Vienna. She began her musical education at the age of six, playing the recorder and the piano. A few years later she changed to clarinet and even later to saxophone. She started out with the local wind-music-orchestra, lateron she also was part of symphony-orchestras, Big Bands, organ-player, and participated in numerous chamber-music-ensembles and sang in a choir.


During her studies she turned to jazz and became interested in composition and improvisation.
Own musical activity in the fields of jazz (Nord.Rand.Band, JuJu, Translucent), classical music (Sx4 Saxophone-Quartet) and Performance (IMPROjekt) as well as sidewoman and musician in theater-productions. For some years now she is very interested in composition with jazz-compositions and chamber-music being the overwhelming part of her output.
