General Information

Year of Foundation:  1947

The State Authorized Society for Authors, Composers and Publishers (AKM) is a royalty collecting society in Austria that manages the rights for public performances, broadcast, and availability rights for authors, composers and publishers of musical works that are members of the AKM or foreign collecting agencies. The AKM collects licensing fees from event organisers, broadcast companies and other companies for the broadcast/offering of copyrighted music. After subtracting administrative fees, the rest if then distributed amongst copyright holders, or, in the case of reciprocal agreements, on other collection societies. The distribution of royalties are based on legal regulations and settlement rules defined by the AKM. The AKM derives no profits from royalities.

The subsidiary austro mechana represents and collects the mechanical royalties for the recording, film, video, radio, television and cassette industries.
