General Information

Year of Foundation:  1977

The Oberösterreichische Landesmusikschulwerk (OÖ LMSW) was created in 1977 as a result of the Landesmusikschulgesetzes (state music school law) and has provided Upper Austria ever since with a comprehensive network of music schools. Today there 68 primary institutions and 88 branch offices. The goal of the OÖ LMSW is to provide a broad swathe of the populace access to music education, to prepare particularly talented students for studies at institutions of higher learning and to encourage community music participation. The music schools associated with the OÖ LMSW consider themselves responsible for creating a musical education that, together with public schools, leads to a comprehensive understanding of art and culture. The music schools should provide a basis for the cultural life of their respective communities and, in close cooperation with other cultural institutions like brass bands, choirs, orchestras and chamber ensembles, promote the regional folk music and dance.
