International Society for Contemporary Music - ISCM Austria

General Information

Year of Foundation/Breakup:  1922

The International Society for Contemporary Music, founded in 1922, is now an important international network with members in over 50 countries dedicated to the advancement and presentation of contemporary music. The Austrian section, with regional organizations in Upper Austria, Carinthia, Salzburg, Styria and Tirol, views it as its task to strengthen Austria’s musical culture with regard to innovation, diversity and equal opportunities, with the intended balance between the genders being regarded as an innovative force in itself. A women’s network within the ISCM Austria, led by Manon Liu-Winter and Irene Suchy, formulates measures and programs meant to help realize this objective, while also working to position the iscm as a lobbyist on this musical and societal issue at world music festivals and jubilees.
