Peter Androsch was born in Wels in 1963 and moved to Linz in 1969. After completing secondary school he started studying at the Kepler University Linz and at the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz (former Bruckner Conservatory), but interrupted his studies in order to concentrate on playing music. Collaborations with different musicians and ensembles (Ensemble Camorra, Soundso, Monochrome Bleue, Diana Jirkuff, Horst Paster, Robert Spour), as well as performances and tours (Austria, Germany, USA, Italy, Spain, etc) followed. By the end of the 1980s, Androsch also worked as a cultural journalist. As of the mid-1990s, he travelled to Zimbabwe, the USA and South Africa to work and study. Peter Androsch has released numerous CDs and publications.

 

Ever since the 1980s composing has played a central part in the creative work of Peter Androsch. Particularly in the area of musical theatre his particular fortitude in artistic creation can be seen, a strength that combines theatre, sound, and space: His compositions include opera, music theatre, orchestra, chamber, stage, ballet, choir and film music, as well as electro-acoustic compositions.

In a kind of Jekyll and Hyde score, Androsch fixed this all in precise calligraphy, exact notation, and then called for an ad lib repetition of everything. This latter occasionally gives the whole composition gestures of minimalist music, without ever sounding merely ornamental. The music is always quite catchy, is descriptive, but not illustrative.
