Composition Competition of the Union of European Choral Federations (AGEC): the choral motets "Ave Maria" and "Pater noster" in 2001 have been ranked under the best pieces |
Michael Buchrainer is one of the most exciting talents that I have met in my composition classes. His sharp analytical way of thinking is striking, everything is verifiable. His complicated polyrhythmics are never an end in itself, but determine forms which are embedded in very personal, delicate motifs. Even if Buchrainer sometimes expects a lot from the performers, he still always keeps his style through harsh self-criticism under control. To the listener especially the piece "Episoden" has something strangely exciting, but also parody traits are clearly observable.
