Description of Style

My musical language does not derive from a uniformed, philosophical or structural idea. My musical background consists of very different musical styles (such as classic piano pieces, 1970s rock, ecclesiastical music, Ladin folk songs), a fact reflected in my compositions. Music is a form of communication, music wants to communicate. Therefore, the process of composing to me is project-oriented.

Press Reviews

2002

Everybody who wants to wrench a personal language from music cannot simply fall back on to the vocabulary of the old masters or that of the aging Avant-Garde. It requires the radical humbleness of a composer who himself shapes his musical building bricks, arranges them and puts them together. Eduard Demetz is such a conscientious grammarian of the elementary, [...] a multilingual man and a polyglot composer.
