In the 80s Christian Fennesz was a major style inspiration with his experimental rock band Maische. Since the early 90s, Fennesz has dedicated himself to his analog and digital guitar sounds, which are processed beyond recognition. He is considered as one of the most innovative guitar transformers and as one of the leading representatives of the Viennese electronic scene. In the meantime the guitar is no longer the most important instrument for the ex-guitarist, but rather serves as the base material for samplers and computers. Guitar and sampler are the only requirements of the now convinced loner. Musically Fennesz has a very easygoing approach to different styles: dub, jungle, ambient sounds, rock riffs and folk elements - Fennesz' sound universe knows no stylistic boundaries, it only has to make sense. The resulting electronic masterpieces can be heard on the debut EP "Instrument", on the highly acclaimed albums "Hotel Paral.lel" (Mego 1997), "Endless Summer" (Mego 2001) and "Field Recordings 1995-2002 " (Touch 2002), Venice (Touch 2004), Black Sea (Touch 2008), Szampler (The Tapeworm 2010), 17.02.2012 (Song Cycle 2013) und Bécs (Editions Mego 2014) or in the movies "Beyond the Ocean" (1999/USA),"Gelbe Kirschen"(2000/AUT), "Blue Moon"(2002/AUT) "AUN - Der Anfang und das Ende aller Dinge" (2011/AUT/JPN) and "Shirley - Visions of Reality" (AUT 2013).

Description of Style

After many years as a guitarist, I have been focusing on electronic music since 1991, particularly with sampling technology, whereas for me the so-called "classical electronic avantgarde" is equally as influential as techno, drum & bass or ambient.
