Description of Style

Thomas Larcher's music is characterised by rhythmic complexity, rich sound and great precision, "as a composer, he moves alongside the narrow lanes of contemporary music, passes through large stylistic widths and is inspired by life itself" (Thomas Meyer). In his pieces, which are often inspired by non-musical sources, such as literary and journalistic texts, images, or daily events, he takes the risk of objectively exploring sound spaces or possibilities of tempo. "Schubert's sounds of desire stand in comfortable tonality next to the musical box sounds of the primed piano [...]. Rhythmic impulses à la Bartók appear alongside nightmarish requirements in extreme situations and areas of expression [...]. Larcher creates his own 'Musica impura', which has little to do with avant-garde and a lot with stored experiences".
