Description of Style

In 1979, Cesar Bresgen wrote about Ernst Ludwig Leitner: "[...] Reaching a synthesis of a world of sound colours and embracing polyphonic nobleness was Leitner's foremost purpose [...]" My first contact with 20th century music was in secondary school, around 1958. It was mainly music by Johann Nepomuk David and Paul Hindemith, performed by the director of the Wels Bach Choir and Josef Friedrich Doppelbauer, who would later be my teacher. Years later, I heard music by Olivier Messiaen for the first time, and it fascinated me from the start. My involvement with music from the Viennese school had a huge, lasting impact on my work. From today's perspective I would add this sentence to the quote at the beginning by Cesar Bresgens.
