Gold Medal for Meritorious Service to the Republic |
My compositions are basically determined by structural thinking, namely in as many dimensions as possible. I see my roots in Webern, the Viennese School and Bach. I have pursued an individual path based on serial thinking since 1984, which - to me in an amazingly clear manner - has allowed me to realize my own compositional concepts and to include historic opportunities (from Gregorian music to jazz) and use them as a starting point for structural considerations. Since 1988, I have been increasingly interested in the structure of partial tone rows and have always tried to include more consistent methods in my structural thinking, and on the other hand, to develop its own structural capabilities.
Bruno Strobl 1994
20. December 2006
Only a few have succeeded in the recognition of contemporary music, and certainly in Carinthia. Since today, Bruno Strobl (57) is one of the composers awarded by the state. [...] In addition to his many functions and activities (Carinthian chairman of the ISCM, head of the vocal ensemble Vox Nova, Ensemble Kreativ or the Klangspectrum Villach), the musician and conductor, who lives in Rothenthurn, has repeatedly attracted attention with his own compositions. Just in the year 2006, there were 24 Strobl-concerts in Austria, and 17 concerts abroad, including world premieres in Rome, Dobbiaco and Hanover.
