Description of Style

[ ... ] I write down what I have to write. However, up to date, I have never succeeded in achieving what I really wanted to realize. The piece as a whole is always finished when it comes to the mind. But it is then difficult to understand and to write down what ought to be there. [ ... ] The melody is always the decisive idea. One should not experiment with musical instruments. I do not even feel embarrassed to put a simple D major tune under a a D major chord, although many would consider this to be hopelessly outdated. I also like to write in classical forms and to apply recognizable counterpoints. This is of course not a general principle, but my music only makes sense when treated this way. And I refuse to destroy a melody. So it can happen that many things I compose sound as if they had already been there before. But that does not bother me. I do think that it is still always my music. [ ... ] So far I have not made a single piece that I have really written without any external influence. If I ever wrote a piece without any external constraints, then I would get to know more about myself.
