Born in 1956. Studied saxophone and flute at the Conservatory of Vienna. He referrs to John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy and Asian music as his basic musical influences. In 1977 he co-founded with Mathias Rüegg the "Vienna Art Orchestra", which he left again in 1989. Alongside Joe Zawinul, Wolfgang Puschnig is certainly one of the most important active jazz musicians in Austria. His reputation as a brilliant soloist and virtuoso who is bubbling over with ideas are the main reason for which he is always invited to international projects as a guest musician. Above all, it is the variety of the ensemble he founded, including "Air Mail", "Pat Brothers", "AM4", "Alpine Aspects" that distinguishes him as an internationally recognized artist who stilistically crosses borders without fear.
His musical projects are expressions of his artistic openness, curiosity and experimentation - always at the highest level.
