After finishing school, Dieter Angerer began to study horn as a major at the University of Music and the Performing Arts Vienna under Prof. Friedrich Gabler. Angerer graduated in 1976 with distinction, earning him an appreciation prize by the (former) Federal Ministry of Science and the Arts. In 1974, Dieter Angerer became part of the stage orchestra of the Vienna State Opera as a hornist.

He passed on artistic knowledge to the younger generation as a teacher at the SOS children's village and the music school in Hinterbrühl. For many years, he has also supported hornists at seminars for brass instruments in Hollabrunn. He composed several pieces for horn choir, as well as for alphorn and natural horns, as a member of the International Horn Society, the Viennese French horn association, as well as the Viennese horn ensemble. Since 1999, he has been the bandleader of the Donaustadt district brass orchestra. His arrangements for various instruments and orchestra adaptations are not only enjoyed by the listeners, but also by the performing musicians. Dieter
