Baldini to conduct Camellia Symphony Orchestra’s season opener on Saturday

There also will be a premiere of the “Suite Argentina” by Argentine composer Juan Manuel Abras. He studied in Vienna and also did studies with the Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki.

“The work won an important award in Austria, and it showcases different types of dances from Argentina, much in the way that Ginastera did with his ballet ‘Estancia,’ ” Baldini said. ”This is written in a very personal style, and shows mastery of the composer not only in the knowledge of these dances, but also as a skillful orchestrator.”

Something Borrowed, Something New: The Marriage of Stylistic Elements in Works by Milhaud, Abras and Riley for Piano 4-hands

In his humorous 'Estelango' Abras works the tritone sonority (with its multiple associations) extensively in a quick tango tempo, briefly alluding
to a diminished 7th and Classical cadential trill context, only to return to the original leg-kicking tango parody.
