Denovaire (aka Timo Kaufmann) was born in Seeheim/Germany in 1978 and grew up in Klagenfurt, Austria. There, he received his first musical training at the conservatory. After a short intermezzo at the Vienna University of Technology, he trained as a sound engineer in Graz and worked as freelancer at Perfect Sound Studio, where he helped with the production of game music, jingles, sound installations etc.
He studied composition at the University for Music and Dramatic Arts Graz under G.F. Haas and G. Kühr. In 2002, he founded "Dancing Shiva", an electro-acoustic world music project, which combines western Rock and electronic elements with oriental influences, and in which Denovaire is responsible for conception, composition, organization and the esraj part. In addition, he collaborates with the ensemble Derwish (esraj, guitar, bass; experimental improvisation), Fun&Stahlbad (sounds + voice, Stefan Schmitzer & denovaire, reading and experimental electronic sounds) and Sonusphaera (world music).
Numerous concerts and performances of own compositions at the Klangnetze during the Musikprotokoll im steirischen Herbst, the Museum der Wahrnehmung, Forum Stadtpark, the people's opera Sarajevo, international summer school of contemporary music Darmstadt etc.

Experiences with electronic music in combination with the interest in Indian music and the studying of the Indian string instrument esraj, led to a search for sounds, which seldom starts with the traditional, but attempts to break new ground in a haptic/process-related and melodious/sensual way. A sensitive questioning of traditions is my motivation to play and write music, which tries to open up room, which has often been forced upon us through marketing categorization.
Thinking ahead and gently transferring the familiar into a contemporary environment is inspiring, not clinging to culture in a traditional, obstinate and sometimes even rigid way. Silence and sound instead of the excessive overload by a globalised culture undifferentiatedly mixing everything it gets into its hands between paper money, event reports and mega deals.
