Fernando Riederer was born on 9 July 1977 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and grew up in Florianópolis. He studied composition from 1997 to 2002 with Prof. Dr. Mauricio Dottori at EMBAP (School of Music and Arts of Parana).
He has been living in Vienna since 2003 and started the formal recognition procedure of his degree in 2005 at the University for Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna with the professors Dieter Kaufmann and German Toro-Perez.
In 2002 Fernando Riederer was a finalist of the "Lindembergue Cardoso" competition with the composition for chamber orchestra Um sopro (one breath), in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, in 2003 he was honorary award winner of the"Camargo Guarnieri" competition with the piece for symphony "ruinas em furia" (furious ruins), in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and in 2005 he won the Funarte award at the XVI biannual festival for contemporary music in Rio de Janeiro with the songs "da carne do teu coração" (from the flesh of your heart).
Since 1995 he has participated in many festivals and music projects: 1998 and 2001 "Encompor" in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil; in 2002 IV. Meeting of Latin American Composers and Performers in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil; since 2002 he organises and manages the ensemble "EntreCompositores" (which composes and performs contemporary music); since 2004 he has been involved in "Das Wiener Geräuschorchester"; in 2005 XVI biannual festival for contemporary music in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; in 2006 II biannual festival for contemporary music in Mato Grosso, Brazil; in 2007, Making New Waves, audible light installation in Budapest, Hungary. Since 2006 he is a member of the association I-Kult, an international culture platform, (www.ikultur.com). In 2006 he co-founded "Platypus - Verein für neue Musik" (www.platypus.or.at) with Hannes Dufek and Christoph W. Breidler.
