Georg Furxer, born in 1981, received his first musical education at the music school of the city of Dornbirn with Prof. Ivan Karpati, Prof. Guntram Simma and Prof. Peter Cavall. After graduating with honours in 1999, he studied for a year composition with Herbert Willi at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory. In 2000 he moved to Vienna to continue his education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in composition, piano and applied music. At the same time he completed his studies in German language and literature studies at the University of Vienna. During his studies, he worked as a freelancer for Universal Edition, where he was entrusted with the works by Wolfgang Rihm, Luciano Berio, Cristobal Halffter, Pierre Boulez, among others. In addition, Georg Furxer has worked as an interpreter of contemporary piano music. His works have already been performed several times (including at the Vienna Festival, the Musikverein) by well-known performers such as Petra Stump, the Sonus Brass Ensemble or Nouvelle cuisine) and have been awarded prizes.
