Long-windedness isn't really Julia Purgina's thing. She prefers to get to the point with her cyclicly arranged miniatures. And, although she does some theoretical work when she examines the aleatoric compositional methods of the U.S. and Europe, she doesn’t base her works on an abstract concept. Instead she relies on her tonal conceptions and moves across a broad spectrum from the humorous, to the energetic and eventually subtle moods. For inspiration she looks to non musical references like pictures, city maps or even literature: In this way, she e.g. was inspired by the unusual adjectives used by Pablo Neruda for her work "Herbarium".
