Born to a musical family in 1971 in Bucharest. First piano lessons with my mother, then continued in the "George Enescu" secondary school of music. Since 1980, I performed as a soloist in recitals and orchestral concerts (e.g. in 1985 with the Brasov Philharmonics, where I played Beethoven's 1st concert) and also in chamber music concerts, where I often played my own pieces. From 2000-2002 member of the trio "Armonia". After high school, various studies at the Bucharest University of Music (composition and organ), such as studies in composition with Dan Dediu and Aurel Stroe. I wrote my dissertation in Vienna (University of Music), which has the following title: of "Inkommensurabilität in Aurel Stroes Musik am Beispiel seiner Opern-Trilogie Oresteïa". The dissertation was published 2013 in the "Präsens" edition Vienna. Stroe's inclusion of science into music has encouraged me to not only restrict myself to music. I have always been accompanied by a strong interest for music theory.

After finishing my studies in Bucharest, I worked as an assistant at the Conservatory in Braşov (Kronstadt) in the field of analysis (1997-2002). In 2002, Aurel Stroe received the "Herder"-award and recommended me for the "Herder"-scholarship. This allowed me to come to Vienna, where I visited Dieter Kaufmann's seminars at the University of Music and Performing Arts. After a yearDieter Kaufmann asked me to pursue further studies in electroacoustic composition and to continue studying music theory with Dieter Torkewitz. I acquired two Master's degrees (2006 and 2007). Dieter Torkewitz is still my dissertation's supervisor. From 2004-2006 I also received the "Thyll-Dürr"-scholarship, for which I have composed several piecesthat premiered at the Albertina and St. Augustine's Church. Furthermore, the "Dr. Robert and Lina Thyll-Dürr Foundation" has enabled me to stay as an artist in residence in 2007 at the Villa "Zia Lina" on Elba (Italy). There I became very fond of having discussions with people who were active in other areas (literature, painting and paleontology) than music.

My work includes orchestral, chamber music, choral peices, solo pieces for instruments, songs, electronic and multi-media pieces, which have been performed in Romania (at various festivals), in Austria (Vienna - Alte Schmiede, University of Music, WUK, Graz, Reutte Außerfern), in the USA (New York), Ireland, Portugal and Japan (Tokyo). Apart from the above mentioned performances, I have won various composition awards and have had radio shows and radio interviews. Most of the CDs containing my pieces have been produced in Vienna (e.g. the organ piece "Capriccio", my symphonical work "Opus Opus", the electronic piece "Landschaften", the piano piece "Klänge", the sextet "Transparenz" or the Marimba-piece "Die Zeit und die Ewigkeit").

Description of Style

For me, two parameters are most important: intonation and timbre. I understand the melody as a line. My compositions, especially the orchestral pieces, consist of several (sometimes very different) lines. The swapping of many lines (on each instrument or instrument group) leads to different timbres. My favorite composers, which I also like to play on the organ, are J.S. Bach and O. Messiaen. In my way of composing you can find a lot  inspiration from both composers. The melody plays an important role in the folk music, which is also a source of my inspiration. Some of my pieces show traits of folkloristic music (such as Romanian melodies and rhythms). Another aspect might be the programmatic one. This aspect then has a more vivid influence on the listener and sometimes leads me to accompany the music with images (videos that I produce myself).
I want my music to be expressive and harmonious and that it momentarily takes the audience away from everyday life concerns.
