Description of Style

Whether interpreting or composing, my approach to music from the beginning has been driven by organ, human voice and church interiors, therefore the presentation of images, the relation to words and ritual life constitute a still igniting inspiration to me. In addition to first experiences with dodecaphonic or serial stylistic devices, in particular the music of Olivier Messiaen and Michael Radulescu took the role of the formative model. I also received decisive impetus from the works and thoughts by György Ligeti, Hans W. Henze, Morton Feldman and Wolfgang Rihm and by dealing with earlier periods and other forms of art.
The realization that the intellect as opposed to sensuality always remains impossible to be switched off during the creative process, today rather makes me see the construction of composition as the result than as the impetus for the compositional process, being a kind of "scanning" sorting of the already invented - the means of language only assert themselves from the respective expressions, but not vice versa. I consider the synthetic linking of history and present, far from any fear of contact, as a rewarding aesthetic challenge.
