Description of Style

I see myself as a conceptual artist. So the overarching concept which I always choose for my various projects stands above all the compositions that I write and that of course influences my style of composition. For example, the idea on my first solo piano CD "Emotions" was to tell stories. I made up stories and tried to improvise and tell them on the piano. These improvisations then finally formed my compositions.
I followed a completely different approach with the CD "Transformation", where I used individual motifs and ideas from classical works of Bach or Beethoven for my own "jazzy" works.
On my latest concept "Celebrating Modern Genius", we as the HDV Trio celebrate important personalities of the 20th Century, for example, an image of Frida Kahlo, or a poem by Erich Fried as an inspiration for a composition.
