Gilman Rostislav

Place of Birth:  Moscow, Russia

Rostislav Gilman was born in Moscow into a family of professional musicians. His musical training began at the age of 3 with private lessons in music theory and aural training. At the age of 5 he was accepted into the prestigious Gnessin School of Music for musically gifted children and started with violin lessons. In 1990 the family moved to Germany Rostislav continued his violin studies inMunichand later in Ingolstadt.
After graduating from high school in 2001 he moved to Vienna to study violin at the Vienna Conservatoryand later at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Some of his teachers included internationally acclaimed violinists like D. Schwarzberg, H. Krebbers, R. Nodel, A. Arenkow. During his career, he won several first prizes in violin-competitions, played numerous concerts in Europe, Australia and Japan, and has appeared often on television and radio. Furthermore, Rostislav worked with outstanding musicians such as M. Rostropovich, Y. Kreizberg, the Amadeus Quarett, the Janacek Quartet etc. In 2002 was Rostislav concertmaster of the European Philharmonic Orchestra.
Due to a hand injury he had to give up on his violin studies in 2005 and began to study composition in 2006. Rostislav studied composition, and parallel to this he also studied media composition at the Vienna University of Music and electroacoustic composition at the Royal College of Music in London and completed his studies in 2010.
His works have premiered in prestigious halls (eg.. the Konzerthaus Vienna) and have been performend by renowned ensembles (Jeneusse Choir Vienna, Ensemble Lux, Nouvelle Cuisine Big Band and many others).
In 2009 he started his studies in conducting under Prof. U. Lajovic. As a conductor he has worked with the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra (Czech Republic), the Pro-Arte-Orchestra (Austria) the Schweizerorchester Frohnleiten (Austria), the Symphonisches Salonorchester Ingolstadt (Germany) and the Nouvelle Cuisine Big Band (Austria) among others.
Since 2010, Rostislav has turned increasingly to the genre of pop music - his song "Never meant to" took the Second Place at the Elaktro Song Contest.
