Anton Bruckner scholarship |
Music offers (me) the chance to communicate, as a composer, performer and event organiser, and ardently come to terms with the multifaceted manifestations and synchronousness (cultural, in relation to music history, social...) of my environment at the beginning of the 21st century, and to do so in a preferably clearly formulated language entailing all elements from the serious to the jovial.
Helmut Schmidinger, 1996
2005
about: Nur ein Hauch! - und er ist Zeit
Gefühlseruptionen
The composer, born in 1969, sounds the first 41 bars of the Andante and he then updates Schubert's music; "a delicate task", as he himself states, but an interesting one, as Schmidinger expresses Schubert's emotional span as in the portrayal of a dream, as the music oscillates between probing hardness and gentle kindness, between emotional eruptions and the softest pianissimo. The Festival Strings played an urging rhythm in C minor but were hardly precise in their interpretation. Schmidingers' music was played in a demonstrative, sophisticated and insightful manner.
Neue Luzerner Zeitung
2004
The music of Helmut Schmidingers blends with the text, supports it and carries emotions and accentuations.
This reduction to the vital is a work of mastery.
Oberösterreichische Nachrichten
2000
about: Wenn die Strenge ein wenig nachgibt ...
The almost half an hour long pauseless composition treads new grounds of compromise-free seriousness, atmospheric density, absolute idiosyncrasy, and richness in contrast. Great effect is created out of the imaginative suggestive treatment and combination of the instruments, whereby virtuosity is virtually required by all performers.
Neues Volksblatt
1998
about: ... nicht ehe die Trommeln verstummen ...
... And one of these highlights was the world premiere of the Concertino for two small drums and ensemble by Helmut Schmidinger. The mastery of the composer of playing with the array of instruments was fascinating; nothing sounds afflicted and tense, and all seems easy regardless of the micro tonality which was partially employed. 20th century music which comes from the heart, with constructivism in the background. A successful world premiere ...
