Franziska Hatz and Richie Winkler founded the band by in 2009. The duo became a trio when Berhard Riedman joined the act on drums. He eventually decided to put down his sticks and to become a journalist, but not before he gave the band a goodbye-present in the form of the impressive name "Grossmütterchen Hatz Salon Orkestar".
In december 2009 the remaining duo trasnformed into a quartet for a party, invtied by Julian Pieber and Simon Schellnegger. As a result of the increasing success it eventually became the longest party ever. In August 2010 Andi Wilding joined on the electric guitar, and remained until 2012. For almost an entire year, Thomas Castaneda danced on the keyboards as the fifth party guest in grandma's salon.
