One is Not Enough

It takes two to tango. One is Not Enough is a passionate rendering of a tango in tango nuevo style. The work switches often between jazz rhythms and harmonies and the familiar rhythms of tango, creating a bridge between the two styles.
As always in tango, the piano has a pivotal role to play. The piano presents its proud but stately second theme, which is later supported by the violin and guitar with soulful countermelodies. Leading into an improvising section that is unusually based on new material, the work returns to earlier themes and renders a dramatic climax. Another composition by Salecich similiar to One is Not Enough is All or Nothing, also written in tango nuevo style.
