In the true sense of jazz, Jazz Imitations is not really jazz - but it is jazz, imitated. Jazz, meet crossover - crossover, jazz.
Jazz Imitations has the typical header or melody, it has the coda, it has the rhythms and syncopations, it has the jazz harmony, but that's about all. It has a rondo form, with no improvised solos. Instead, each solo is written out.
All that put aside, Jazz Imitations is a great ride. There are fast, dextrous melodies and quick, seamless modulations to contend with. Without the aid of percussion, rhythmic intensity is paramount, and Jazz Imitations grooves right along, with virtuosity expected from all players. Interplay between each member of the ensemble is written into the work.
Jazz Imitations is part of the repertoire of the crossover band MidasDivas.
