King Record Company Limited was founded in 1931 as the music division of Kodansha Limited, the largest publishing company in Japan. The label produces and distributes a wide music repertoire ranging from rock, pops, classical music, jazz/fusion, world folklore music, traditional music to animation and game music - on the whole releasing over 1,200 new titles every year.
King International Incorporated (KII) was established as a wholly subsidiary of King Record in the end of 1990 to celebrate its 60th anniversary. KII has the exclusive distribution rights with over 200 labels such as harmonia mundi (France), Naive (France), Hanssler (Germany), BIS (Sweden), IRMA (Italy), Rounder (U.S.A.) and Vanguard (U.S.A.).
