De-Fence

Beschreibung
"My project “de-fence” uses an existing electronical piece of mine, made out of recorded fence-sounds, and wants to incorporate live musicians as well as performing artists like dancers and actors, and perhaps a video, to make the piece and message more powerful. 
I have been fascinated by the sounds that fences make when stroke or hit with a stick or the hand for a long time. I loved making the wooden laths and the ornate wrought-iron gates ring and sing, when passing by on my daily walks through
Graz-Waltendorf. Iron fences sound like bells or gongs, and can almost have their own melodies, when their bars are of different lengths. In wooden fences, the irregular, natural structure of the wood makes every lath sound a little different, and when stroked quickly, an almost electronically appearing, murmuring sound results. But as beautiful as this little pleasure of mine is – I can only have it, because apparently even the tiniest front yard has to be fenced with metres high iron grating."
