Beschreibung
"ABSTRIAL ist radikale, zeitgenössische Oper in größtmöglicher Transparenz, eine flüchtige Darbietung steter und unaufhaltsamer Prozesse. Ivan Fantinis Installation aus aufgehendem Brotteig und Gläsern bildet die Achse, um die sich die Performance von Paola Bianchi, der beiden live musizierenden Komponistinnen und der SängerInnen bewegt.

Motiv ist der Zerfall alltäglicher Werte, Bedeutungen, Strukturen und die daraus entstehenden von den KünstlerInnen neu zusammengesetzten Gefüge. Texte der US-amerikanischen Dichterin Anne Waldman geben zusammen mit fallenden Gläsern die Rhythmik der allgemeinen Dekomposition und Restrukturierung vor. ABSTRIAL setzt diese materielle Ebene in direkten Zusammenhang mit zeitgenössischer Komposition, elektronischer Musik und Performance.

Der Titel ist eine Zusammensetzung aus den Worten Abstraktion und Material.

As a composer I am acutely aware of the social -‘contemporary’- context of my work: I perceive operas performed at the major opera houses today as perpetuating social rituals rooted in Western cultures of the later 19th century. Not only today’s music is neglected here, but today’s society as well. Premieres and contemporary operas happen mostly in smaller stages, concert halls or off-spaces. (And were are the female composers?)

The group of artists who collaborated to create ABSTRIAL wanted to stage an opera which is part of today’s reality. Ivan Fantini’s installation which structures the stage lives synchronously with the audience, changes and decays, while the performers change, and the music arises and fades away. Every person in the piece shares the same reality, the same world, the same process of transient existence, as every human being present during the performance. There is no separate story/reality/play or dream or magic, which this piece wants to create. Everything is directly visible/audible: raising dough and falling/breaking glass, an audience and performers. The opera ABSTRIAL constitutes a synchronous event to everyday life: a con-temporary opera."
